Chapter 1 – Goals

Invariably the goal of any SEO campaign is to bring more awareness to a website through increased traffic. The traffic can come in different forms such as a link from Google, an email link from a friend, a Facebook page or even a tweet.

If your goal is take advantage of blended local searches by Google, then you’ve come to the right place. Facebook, Twitter and social media are great initiatives to take if you’re looking to bring in traffic, but for this guide we’ll be focusing almost entirely on SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

You’ll want to decide on a time frame for your SEO goal next. Typically, I suggest a solid year of committed metering and adjustment to achieve local First Page results. This can be shorter, or longer, but the point is to get into the right frame of mind – results won’t come overnight and takes lots of dedication. Sometimes a 6 month keyword burst-initiative can be accomplished, but we’ve found this can only take place after an initial site SEO campaign has been completed.

Lastly, you’ll have to consider what your level of participation will be. If you’re willing to put in time, SEO can be very rewarding. In a sense, it’s very similar to gardening in that you’re constantly sowing crops for future yields. If you’re looking to be more of a spectator, that’s alright too, but expect your seeds to take significantly longer to bear fruit or in some cases, have only temporary results.

If you haven’t read our How SEO Works page, have a peak through. It’ll help give you a quick general overview as to how Local SEO is changing the way businesses are reaching new clients.

Sit back, you’ve completed the first step to improving your website rankings! I can’t stress enough how important it is to remain focused on your goal and that you should expect a bumpy ride. Your website will probably climb and fall while going through this process, and that’s entirely to be expected. SEO isn’t an exact science, in fact, its very far from it. The key thing to take from this chapter is we’ve set our goal. Now, it’s time to get to work.
